On October ,2009 all the major search engines include Bing & Google declared the integration of the status updates of Facebook & twitter to provide users a real time search results.
But this becomes a controversial issue as many claim that Facebook is leaking their privacy by opening their private information to the search engines.
On the other hand, Facebook announcing that its just a rumor. According to Facebook
“Your information is safe.
There have been misleading rumors recently about Facebook indexing all your information on Google. This is not true. Facebook created public search listings in 2007 to enable people to search for your name and see a link to your Facebook profile. They will still only see a basic set of information.”
From September 5, 2007 Facebook is allowing search engines only to index user’s profile with limited information that is termed as “public search listings” so that anyone can find you easily on the web.

Indexing Facebook profiles by Google brings some good for those having a professional quality Facebook profile. Having it appear in organic searches for user’s name is one more element of control over their online reputation.
Conversely if your Facebook profile is evidence of debauchery or open to misinterpretation, you might want to exclude yourself from those search engine results pages.
The public profiles show your name, your profile picture, and a list of 8 of your friends. When you sign up to Facebook, the public profile is automatically on to be indexed. You have to opt out to get rid of indexing.
If you want to hide your Facebook profile (for some personal reasons) from indexing on search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc then you can use the Facebook Privacy Settings properly to control that.
Its not too much hard. Just follow the following easy steps to Hide/Unhide your Facebook profile from Google search listings:
Step 1: Log-in to your Facebook Account.
Step 2: Hover the mouse on Settings tab in the top right corner of your Facebook homepage. Select the Privacy settings in the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Under the Facebook privacy settings click on the Search Tab.

Step 4: Here you will find a check box with text “Allow” & it is checked by default. Now to hide your Facebook profile from Google search listings simply uncheck the public search listing checkbox and save the changes.

Step 5: At top right corner you will see a Button with lock sign & a text “Everyone“. Click on it. A dropdown many will appear. By this button you can control Who can see your search result on Facebook.

You should complete this Facebook privacy settings changes just after creating your account as it is difficult to avoid showing your profile after indexing is done. Your profile indexing may take at least 5 - 6 days for completion, so remove the check under this period only.
As a blogger I always want Google index my content wherever they see it but that not the case for average people. You just share nice tutorial on protecting Facebook profile updates from Google.
