This last March, Facebook introduced a real time feed in the central column of user’s homepage so that user could see everything their friends were sharing as soon as they shared it. Facebook also included a highlight section on the right- hand side so user could see the most interesting activity going on in his/her network.
These days real time activities are extremely valuable to the users. Everyone is looking for what is happening right now around the world.

Facebook Live Feed is the recent addition on your homepage that allows you to catch up on what you may have missed while you were away from facebook.
Now, after log in, you are able to toggle between two views: your Facebook News Feed, which is essentially what used to live in the Highlights section, and the Facebook Live Feed, which is the same real-time feed from your friends that you’re used to.
Your Facebook News Feed is now a “summary view of the most interesting activity that’s happened in the last day”. Some factors like how many friends have liked and commented on it and how likely you are to interact with that story determines the News Feed stories pick up.

But in the new design Facebook has moved what you used to see in Highlights from the right-hand side to the News Feed view in the main column.
And the new Live Feed provides the activities from your friends in real time even if it happened 1 or 2 seconds ago.
You can edit what appears in this view by clicking “Edit Options” at the bottom of the home page.
