Microsoft’s Bing to include Facebook status updates in search result

Microsoft’s Bing will be integrating public Facebook status updates within the next two months.

While there are millions of people posting status updates, we don’t know how many users make their status updates public, it appears that those who do will have their statuses integrated into Bing search.

bing to integrate facebook status update

Microsoft said Wednesday, Oct 22,2009 that Bing would soon integrate Facebook updates, but only those made public by their users. Twitter updates, unless locked by the user, are presumed to be public.

Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg said: “We should have our public updates integrated into a Bing beta within a couple of months. Unlike Twitter’s data stream, which is already totally public, we have to be very careful about making sure the correct data is streamed.”

With 45 million status updates per day, it’s a wonder how many are actually public.

Significantly, Ms Sandberg told the audience at the Web 2.0 conference that they were not paying Facebook for access to the status updates.

On the same day Google and Microsoft also announced the integration of Twitter tweets in their search result.
